Description

Aluminium Welding Wire ER5356

New Aluminium Alloy Mig Welding Wire ER5356 is a high-strength general-purpose type aluminum alloy. In addition, it also offers outstanding corrosion resistance when exposed to saltwater and is hence widely used in the marine and offshore industries.

The ER5356 should be used for welding 5000 series aluminum base metals.

  • Grade – ER5356
  • Diameter 1.0mm
  • 2kg

The ER5356 is a stiffer wire and is used when higher strength weld properties are required. Use a stainless steel wire brush to clean the aluminum before welding, this will help to remove the oxide layer.

Alloy 5356 is the most widely used aluminium filler alloy and can be classified as a general-purpose, non-heat-treatable alloy. It is typically chosen because of its relatively high shear strength, mostly due to magnesium, which is the primary alloying element.

The 5356 alloy base material, when welded with 5356, with weld pool chemistry greater than 3% magnesium and service temperatures in excess of 65°C, is susceptible to stress corrosion.

cracking (SCC). Due to the magnesium addition, it does produce weld smut (an aluminium/magnesium deposit) along the weld, which can be cosmetically unappealing. The presence of weld smut does not degrade the integrity of the weld.

The Latest Aluminium Welding Wire 5356 aluminium alloy is an alloy in the wrought aluminium-magnesium family (5000 or 5xxx series). Unlike most aluminium-magnesium alloys, it is primarily used as a welding filler. One of the most popular aluminium filler alloys, alongside 4043.

It possesses relatively high strength but at the expense of being more vulnerable to cracking. It is the preferred filler when making lap or butt welds on the popular 6061 aluminium alloy, or when the welded parts are to be anodized.
